This Privacy Notice (“this notice”) explains how we use or process your personal data (“Personal Information”) that we collect through your use of zoechristianbookshop.co.za (“the website“) or information provided by you through the website.
Any references to “we”, “us” or “our” in this notice shall be to Zoe Christian Bookshop; and references to “user”, “you” or “your” in this notice shall be to any user of this website.
How we gather Personal Information
The information we learn and collect from customers help us to personalize and continually improve their experience in our stores, when receiving marketing or when using our online store. Personal information is collected for marketing purposes and to better serve our customers. Here are the types of information we gather:
Information you give us
We receive and store any information you enter on our website or give us in any other way. You can choose not to provide certain information, but then you might not be able to take advantage of many of our features. We use the information that you provide for such purposes as responding to your requests, customizing future shopping for you, improving our stores, and otherwise communicating with you.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
How we use your Personal Information
We will use your Personal Information only for the purposes for which it was collected and agreed with you. In addition, where necessary your information may be retained for legal or research purposes.
For example:
- To gather contact information;
- To confirm and verify your identity or to verify that you are an authorised user for security purposes;
- For the detection and prevention of fraud, crime, money laundering or other malpractice;
- To conduct market or customer satisfaction research or for statistical analysis;
- For audit and record keeping purposes;
- In connection with legal proceedings.
Who we share your data with
Information about our customers is an important part of our business. In certain cases, it might be necessary to share your information with a 3rd party in order to deliver a service (for example, your name, telephone numbers and address will be shared with the courier service used to deliver an online order).
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account or have left comments on the website, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Marketing Communications
We use SMS, WhatsApp & email to inform our customers of new products and special discounts, with customer consent only. To unsubscribe from SMS marketing, please send an email to zoe@wol.co.za.

You input your credit/debit card information directly on the payment gateway portal, and Zoe Christian Bookshop and Coffee Shop does not receive any credit/debit card information during order processing.
It is important for you to protect against unauthorized access to your password and to your computer. Be sure to sign off and log off when finished using a shared computer.
Conditions of Use, Notices, and Revisions
